On Not Taking Shortcuts!
I enjoy reading select newsletters that arrive in my inbox. I have put a filter on Gmail that tags them as a reading list. The list includes news sources and substacks of a few people I enjoy reading. This is the only way I catch up on the news of what’s happening in the world. One newsletter that stands out to me is Finshots. In a sea of newsletters that are behind a paywall, running an agenda or filled with ads, Finshots feels different.
It is unlike any other newsletter I have seen. It is not behind a paywall, so it does not have to resort to clickbait headlines that pique curiosity but then disappoint. It also sticks to one well-researched story per day. Because it does not try to present a bouquet of multiple stories in a newsletter, it can maintain quality. Finally, it sticks to what it promises - unique insights where the veil is lifted and the clutter is cut. It explains in simple languages about regulations, industries and trends. Does not delve into startup or corporate gossip - things that usually sell.
Over the years, it has been the only one that has survived. Because it never took shortcuts. Delivered on its promise every day, every email, and stayed away from clickbait. Never thought short-term.
Makes one think how every interaction in the world is a contract. Each of these contracts is a promise. If the promise is delivered repeatedly, the contract and the bond become stronger. If one falters, the contract and the bond become diluted until eventually the bond breaks.
What works for newsletters - works for life too. Take the fair road, deliver on your promise, and keep your reputation high - you will get to the destination.
Slow and steady may not always win the race - consistent delivery of promise will!
